After intensive planning and preparation, we’ve made our first big progress. Our property is now shining in new glory, the initial steps have been implemented, and we are filled with energy to tackle the next milestone. Here’s what has happened so far and what’s next!
Clean-Up Work – A Fresh Start for the Property
Before we could start with the actual implementation, we first had to clean and prepare the property. It was heavily overgrown with invasive tree species, and many areas were hardly accessible. The goal was to get a clear overview to better plan the layout and determine which additional construction measures would be needed.
Thanks to the dedicated work of gardeners and a cleaning company, the property now looks as good as new! In just two days, the entire area was cleared:
- Trees were felled and trimmed.
- Densely overgrown areas were opened up.
- Areas that were previously inaccessible are now open and clear.
The result: The property is clean, well-structured, and ready for the next steps.
What’s Next?
Now that the property has been prepared, we are moving on to the next steps. For now, we are focusing on functionality – major cosmetic repairs will come later.
Fence Installation:
The next task is to hire a fence builder to secure the property. This is an important step to ensure the dogs can stay in a safe area.
Dog Houses and Puppy Area:
We are currently looking for craftsmen and carpenters to build dog houses for the shelter. Additionally, we are planning a larger communal shelter specifically for puppies, which will have a separate area.
Clear Layout of the Property:
Now that we can see the entire property, we are planning the precise layout and determining what additional measures are necessary.
Support and Collaborations
In parallel with the on-site work, we are building important connections and seeking support:
Donations from Germany:
We have reached out to pet supply stores and veterinarians in Germany to request donations. Items such as leashes, bowls, or medical supplies that are no longer being sold could be a huge help!
Collaboration with Local Veterinarians and Investors:
Initial discussions with regional veterinarians and potential investors have already taken place. We are hopeful that these will lead to long-term partnerships.
Finding the Perfect Name – What Should Our Project Be Called?
One important point that is still open: We need a name for the shelter! It should be universally understandable, ideally with an anglophone touch, so it works not only in Mauritania but also internationally. If you have a great idea, let us know!
Together for a Better Future
We are incredibly proud of what we have accomplished so far and deeply appreciate all the support we’ve received. The next few weeks will be exciting as we work on the fence installation, layout, and dog houses.
Stay tuned for more updates and share our story with others. If you have ideas or suggestions, feel free to reach out – we’re grateful for everyone who wants to get involved!
Thank you for being part of this mission!
