A Difficult Beginning
Twenty years ago, a little girl in Mauritania experienced a very difficult childhood. As an autistic child, she faced immense challenges in a society that didn't fully understand her needs. At school, she was often isolated, bullied, and deeply misunderstood by peers and teachers alike. Eventually, her parents made the difficult decision to homeschool her for her own protection. For a long time, her world remained incredibly small and closed off from the outside.
A Puppy Changes Everything
One fateful day, everything changed when she found a small, abandoned puppy on the street. She begged her parents to let her care for it. That puppy transformed her life: for the very first time, she encountered a living being that offered absolute trust, unconditional love, and zero prejudice. By taking on the responsibility of feeding, cleaning, and walking the animal, her self-confidence blossomed, her severe anxieties slowly faded, and her social skills began to develop in ways no one thought possible.
The Birth of Dogs of Africa
As time went on, more rescued puppies followed. Five years ago, despite facing her own daily challenges, she shared a simple but powerful realization with her parents: 'We can't keep all the stray dogs at home, but we can save them, heal them, and find them loving families.' This profound moment of empathy marked the birth of Dogs of Africa. Since that day, our small team has successfully rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed over 400 vulnerable puppies.
The Big Dream
Today, at 27 years old, she harbors an even bigger, more ambitious dream: building a dedicated Animal-Assisted Therapy and Rescue Center. This unique sanctuary will be a place where abandoned and abused dogs are rescued and rehabilitated, while simultaneously serving as therapy animals to help autistic children and those with special needs. Through the healing power of dogs, she wants to offer other children the exact same life-changing chance she was given.
